freelance uk based website rss feed integration

Hosting

Keep your existing host

Normally, you can keep your existing host when adding in an rss feed to your site - your host needs to have 'scripting' enabled on your account (ask ADEW to help you check before you make changes).  There are a number of scripting languages available - ADEW support two of the common ones - ASP and PHP, with some Perl support.

ADEW can assist you to find this information out.

It is also important to remember that although some hosts have 'scripting' enabled, their servers are heavily loaded which mean either slow page load times, or errors.  Please see below.

ADEW don't offer hosting services, they focus on providing programming resources using other companies servers.

Will adding a feed slow my site down?

If you are hosting with a reputable hosting company on a package that has sufficient bandwidth / server resources, then there should not be any significant slowness in the site.  ADEW cache the feeds on the server too, where possible, to improve site performance.  Remember, though, that adding rss is an extra function the server has to perform before delivering pages to browsers.

ADEW do recommend that tests are run first to ensure that there is no significant speed issue - ADEW can assist with this.

Note that some hosts put a lot of sites on the same server, and it only takes one of the sites to be busy to start making other sites slower.

If hosting problems occur outside of ADEW's responsibility, and ADEW are required to spend time supporting the hosts problems, ADEW may have to charge for this support.  Pre release testing reduces this problem.

Why is your site fast?

ADEW host their site on a dedicated UNIX virtual server, with PHP enabled, and cache the contents of the rss file. and there aren't many other sites on the virtual server. This means ADEW's site can run fast.
