php / mysql

Now the main service I offer, in programming websites, considerable commercial experience on small and large sites.

I've done all kinds of sites over past few years - from simple CMS (a few pages with simple programming), to e-commerce of various sizes, to very complex be-spoke sites for, for example, a large regional newspaper. In the latter project, the database runs to several million records, my involvement included database design, and I'm happy to say that, despite at times a huge quantity of data, it runs fast despite heavy loads.

asp / asp.net

ASP used to be main skill; as PHP came to fore PHP has taken over. Considerable commercial experience on small and large sites a like. Examples are small CMS through to be-spoke. As ASP.NET came on to market, I have used too.

PayPal, Protx & WorldPay Integration

Over the years, I've integrated various sites with PayPal, Protx and WorldPay so have experience with all these.

javascript

I'm sometimes asked about purely javascript work, I've done a lot of javascript over the years, and depending on the type of work I can consider this.

database skills

I have considerable experience in designing and developing databases with both mySQL and MS SQL / Access. In the 1990s I started with Betrieve Databases, in the days when all they returned was a row of binary data, and code had to break this down into columns - there was no Database Manager, Enterprise Manager etc.! Since then I started working with MS SQL version 8, through to 2000 to latest 2005, but also mySQL in which I have considerable experience in both small and large databases.

I've recently designed and implemented a database solution in mySQL for a regional newspaper that drove a large PHP site, and which has several million records in. It was designed very carefully for search speed (main need for database), with search indexes, and despite large quantity of data, and heavy usage, it works well.

I'm therefore able to offer database skills too.
